My Online Writing Courses

I’ve been teaching writing courses since 2019, and created my first online writing course, How To Tell One Story, in November 2024. Since then, more than 250 people have signed up for it, and some really good writing has come out of it.

How To Tell One Story is a six-week email course intended to help you get that first story out of your head and onto the page (or that first story you’ve written in a while). It’s 12 email lessons delivered on Monday and Thursday mornings at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Each email contains a short written and illustrated lesson, a brief video, and a writing exercise. We break down the writing process into sections, and by the end of the course, you’ll have completed that story that’s been in your head for years. The course is $249 and includes personalized feedback on your story from me at the end of the course, as well as a sequence of 12 weekly writing prompts to keep you going after the course finishes. Demystifying Publication is a five-week email course all about getting your work published, including freelance writing for magazines or other publications, and self-publishing writing through a platform like Substack. It’s 10 email lessons delivered on Monday and Thursday mornings at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Each email contains a short written and illustrated lesson, a brief video, and a writing exercise. We talk about the nuts and bolts of pitching freelance stories and self-publishing your writing, the challenges of both, and reasons why one or the other is not necessarily the “best” option for every situation.
